The legacy lives on as Sta. Rita College (SRC) celebrates its 75th year this 2020. Highlight of the celebration is the donation of Php 1,000,000 (one million pesos) cash by Pitts-Mands Carlos Foundation with turnover by the Carlos family headed by President/CEO Jose Antonio Blas L. Carlos, Jr. To date, it is the biggest single donation granted to SRC.
Sta. Rita College dates back 1945 and its inception targeted to provide private education as there is no private school for high school students in Sta. Rita that time. Presently, Sta. Rita College prides itself in Pampanga as it caters to students not only students of the municipality of Sta. Rita but also to the neighboring towns of Bacolor, Guagua, Lubao, Floridablanca and even Porac with a population of about 1,600 students. With the able chairmanship of the board of trustees and presidency of President Jose Antonio Blas “Jay” L. Carlos, SRC is a beneficiary of the R.A. 10931 Tertiary Education Subsidy program of the Philippines, serving the western part of Pampanga as a community college.
Furthermore, President Jay Carlos’ indefatigable Vice President of Sta Rita College Ms. Bienvenida G. Alvaro, Ph.D., said that “Sta. Rita College upholds that, Investment in Quality Education need not be expensive.” Doc Bien, as fondly called by Pres. Jay Carlos added that, “The administration believes that education os transforming God-centered individuals in a nurturing environment, with the vision of SRC as Center of Excellence dedicated in the transformation of individuals for the service of God and humanity and a Mission dedicated to develop and nurture individuals who are:
S – Stewards of God’s Creation and of Christian Faith;
R – Responsible leaders and citizens with passion to serve God and humanity;
C – Committed to Academic Excellence.
SRC will continue to reach out to the marginalized sector of the society not only in Sta. Rita but also in neighboring towns of Pampanga because I firmly believe that EDUCATION is the Best Foundation upon which ECONOMIC PROGRESS REST!”
President Jay L. Carlos, Jr. emphasized in an interview with Adventour Asia that, “As the president of SRC celebrating its 75 years in the education community, I see a vision for SRC five years from now, offering more college courses to satisfy the growing needs of the western part of Pampanga and beyond.” He himself values good education as he made himself abreast in mastering business administration in Ateneo De Manila University where he also earned his A.B. Economics degree after he had his formative high school years in Don Bosco in Bacolor and grade school days in his hometown in Sta. Rita Catholic School
Concurrently, Mr. Jay L. Carlos is the President and CEO of GRBank which is ranked 1 in Central Luzon and placed 4 in the whole of the Philippines in the rural banking category by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, 2019. GRBank has 25 branches and has been serving the community by “Empowering MSME’s and Enriching Pinoy Lives.”
It is admirable that he keeps a balance and successes in his other ventures as president and director of various businesses in real estate, pawnshop, trading corporation, to community service in the Archdiocese, parish pastoral local religious groups, fiesta committee, parents’ school council, alumni association and professional organization like the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines, Confederation of Central Luzon Rural Banks, Pampanga Federation of Rural Banks and Rotary Club of Western Pampanga (formerly RC Guagua) and Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
He happily caps his day going home for a family dinner to his equally bigwig wife Mrs. Teresa Saldana-David of Guagua, Pampanga with the well-rounded four children, namely: Paolo, Christine, JC and Therese.
He finds time for leisure in playing badminton, chess, reading, traveling, and listening to music
